Even though the FC Thun Bernese Oberland only appeared as a consistent player in the top league of Switzerland since 2002, the club has a long tradition. Even before 1900, some football-enthusiastic fellows from Thun got together and laid the foundation for football in the Bernese Oberland.

After the club was dissolved and re-founded twice in the early years, from 1905 for the first time a regular game operation is in place.

The Club rises for the first time in club history in the top league of Switzerland.

The Club of Thun become the French-speaking champions. First promotion to the National League B (2nd best division of Switzerland).

For the first time the FC Thun rises in the National League A, the top division of Switzerland.

April 11, 1955
The FC Thun plays in the Swiss Cup Final at the famous Wankdorf-Stadium in Bern against the La Chaux-de-Fonds. Despite a good performance the «Oberlanders», which were the clear under-dog of this final, lost the game with 1:3.


May 7, 2002
FC Thun beats Winterthur 1-0 in the all-decisive promotion game. After 47 years in the 3rd Division and National League B, FC Thun is able to be promoted again in the top division of Switzerland.

Thun ends the season as runner-up behind FC Basel and qualifies for the UEFA Champions League.

With wins over Dynamo Kiev and Malmö, FC Thun qualify for the UEFA Champions League Group stage to the huge surprise of the entire world of football. 

In Group B with Arsenal, Ajax Amsterdam and Sparta Prague FC Thun finishes on the very good 3rd place ahead of Sparta Prague.

July 9, 2011
With the Stockhorn Arena, the new home of FC Thun has opened.

The FC Thun squad defeats in the qualification of the UEFA Europa League KS Vllaznia Shkodra and US Palermo and reaches the play-offs for Europa League, where FC Thun gets beaten by Stoke City.

FC Thun reaches the UEFA Europa League group stage after defeating Tschichura Szigschere, Häcken Göteborg and Partizan Belgrade. In Group G with Genk, Dynamo Kiev and Rapid Wien, FC Thun finishes on 4th place.

Following victories over Hapoel Be'er Scheva and FC Vaduz, FC Thun reaches the UEFA Europa League play-offs. In that game FC Thun is versing Sparta Prague. After an away defeat and a draw at home FC Thun misses the qualification for Europa League Group stage.

Thanks to a 1-0 away win over FC Luzern in the Semi-Final of the Swiss Cup, FC Thun qualifies for the second time in club history for the Final of that competition. In the Swiss Cup Final the FC Thun squad loses against FC Basel with 1:2.

The FC Thun ends the season on the 4th place in the final ranking of the Super League. This is the second-best result of club history. Consequently, FC Thun is able to play in the third qualification round of the UEFA Europa League. After two defeats against Spartak Moscow however, the European adventure of that season ends in August.

Summer 2019
FC Thun wins the Fair Play Trophy for the 9th time in 15 years. This trophy is awarded to the most fair team of the Raiffeisen Super League each year at the end of the championship season.

After an extremely difficult preliminary round, FC Thun Berner Oberland is at the end of the table with only 9 points. Despite a spectacular catch-up in the second half of the season, Thun will have to play FC Vaduz against the relegation in summer 2020. After a 0:2 defeat in the first leg at the Rheinpark Stadium and a 4:3 home win in the second leg, FC Thun Berner Oberland relegates to the Challenge League after 10 years in the Super League.

Kids Camp

The Kids Camps 2020 will be held under the leadership of ex-professional Nelson Ferreira and in cooperation with trainers from Borussia Mönchengladbach. The first camp in Thun is already fully booked, for the second camp in Interlaken (two days in Interlaken and the final day in the Stockhorn Arena) we are still accepting registrations. There will be a free shuttle bus from Thun to Interlaken and back.
